Blessings are Broken

I Corinthians 11:24

and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

The Christmas season often brings out the worst in us. We, of course, don’t intend this. But, all the talk and hope about the wonders of Christmas seem to echo off our hurts, discouragement and all around brokenness.

This Christmas season are you feeling blue? Let me tell you, as a child of God, brokenness occurs. We may not understand it and we certainly do not appreciate it.  However, it is part of the process for God to be glorified.

First, the Bible shows us that when God blesses us, He then breaks us. This might sound far fetched. But look at the various times Jesus prays in the Bible. He says Bless this bread or bless that food and then he proceeds to break this item. I believe in that same way that God blesses us and then proceeds to break us. Is this for a punishment or revenge? Neither! God wants to use our brokenness for his glory!

So, if you are feeling incredible pain or maybe just a little discouraged….bring your concerns to the Lord and He will love you through this tough time. Think about the struggle that Mary and Joseph endured to give the World a Messiah.  Even more telling is look at the pain and suffering God allowed Jesus to endure so we would have eternal life in Heaven.

It is my prayer that this advent you can feel the love and excitement of the upcoming birth of our Savior. If you feel more unhappiness then happiness, remember that you are part of a greater plan to bring glory to our Heavenly Father.
