Focus on the “Getting up”!

Proverbs 24:16

for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again,
but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.

What are you better at? falling down or getting up? recently a devotional made me stop and wonder: When I fall down do I spend more time licking my wounds or do I focus my energy on getting back up?

Whether you are disabled or not…you will find yourself knocked down by life. For each of us we have those issues that may push us down by the simple force of a feather. Other issues may take more effort to knock us down…but  it still finds us on the ground feeling defeated and vulnerable. These issues could range from money problems, romantic disputes, feeling anxious over a new job. Whatever may cause you to stumble and fall…Take a moment and remember that it doesn’t matter how many times you fall down. What matters ultimately is that you get right back up.

Think of a toddler. They find themselves falling quite a bit. With determination they pull themselves right back up again. It is totally expected and acceptable to fall. Just make sure you do not focus on the pain and anguish from being on that ground, but instead spend your time and energy focusing on rising up again.

God did not intend for us to just stay down. He wants us to rise above our challenges and move on from them. Personally, when I really do fall down like when I walked out the back door and frost was on the ramp. The next thing I knew, I was not so comfortably sitting on the ramp. I started laughing. This laughter made it difficult to stand back up, but it stopped any negative emotions from taking over. To me I would rather laugh my way up again instead of crying. Whatever helps though is what you need to do to get up.

Take some time and focus on some Bible verses that may give you courage, and strength to get back up again. Don’t worry about what will make you fall, but instead look towards the triumph of rising above the challenge.

It is my prayer that you feel the incredible joy of victory when you get back up from life. Don’t allow the negativity of falling down hide your inner light. Remember, God is right there and he knows you can get right back up. Thank you Lord for loving and encouraging us through all of life’s circumstances.
